Glasgow Directory Builders

Our Edinburgh Directory, has for some time been miles ahead of our other Scottish sites in terms of business listings and web hits. However, throwing aside our East Coast bias we've put in a lot of effort into the Weegie Directory of late, and it's slowly catching up.

Typifying this are the recent listings for Papa John's Pizza and Sterling Construction who are a new firm, but well-experienced quality Glasgow builders.

Get A Pizza The Action

An aspect of the latest redesign of the Scottish Directories that we're being increasingly asked about is the enhanced listing. So what better way to demonstrate, than to use as an example one of our recent customers - Domino's Pizza in Dunfermline. You'll all know the name, the market leaders in pizza delivery - this business was recently taken over by two web-savvy Fife entrepreneurs.

So what does the enhanced entry offer them? Well simply, the heightened emphasis and page placement given to their Dunfermline pizza store means that whenever people search for pizza in Dunfermline or pizza in Fife, they show more prominently than their competitors, the other pizza shops serving Edinburgh & South Fife.

Inverness & Highlands

The Aberdeen Business Directory is still developing, but we've decided to complete our list of Scottish cities with the introduction of the Inverness and Highlands Directory. Apart from the City of Inverness, the Directory also covers Inverness-shire, the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Please let us grow the Inverness Directory by suggesting an entry.

We've Struck Oil

... but with only 100 entries, it's more of a trickle - yes we've finally taken the Aberdeen Directory out of the garage. If you've any suggestions for entries for firms or organisations in the Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire area, then please complete the simple submission form.

The Big One!

With plenty of trepidation, we've decided to go ahead with the Glasgow Directory. With our limited resources for this project and lacking a native Weegie, this is likely to take us a couple of months to get up and running - so please be patient. It will cover the City of Glasgow as well as nearby towns. If there's anything you'd like to see in the Directory, then please make a suggestion.

Address Format

After listening to several different arguments, we've made subtle changes to the address style used by the directories. We've implemented a system using the postal town scheme of the Post Office; where if the town/village of an entry isn't one of the ~1500 postal towns in the UK, then the entry's town is listed, followed by a new line of "by Postal Town". We understand that this won't suit everyone, as "via" and "near" are also heavily used - but we'll stick with it for now.

An example from the new Perth & Perthshire Directory is Mrs Constance Ward's luxurious Kinnaird Hotel set in the hamlet of Kinnaird (near Dunkeld) in Perthshire.

Perth & Perthshire

Over the last few weeks we've been working on the Perth Directory. It's still very content lite, but thought it better to release it now, so we can continue to add to it, while also getting some organic suggestions coming in. Why Perth? Because it fills the gap between Dundee and Stirling - and yes, I'm still intimidated by the thought of tackling Glasgow.

Is this thing on?

Welcome, whoever you are, to the blog of the Scotland Directory. As yet, I'm not completely sure how this will be used, but I'm excited it's (hopefully) up all the same.

We're going to post news about the Directory here as well as the usual erratic bloggy things.

Oh, and we've email feedback too - so please let us know what you think.
